Windows XP has been known to cause a little lag on Wireless Networks ever so often which for gamers is quite annoying.

Try disabling the following Service and this will solve the issue.

Click Start--->Control Panel--->Administrative Tools--->Services

Scroll down to the very bottom, there your will see a Service named

"Wireless Zero Configuration"

Right mouse click, select properties and turn the Startup Type to Disabled.

Click Apply and Ok.

If the service is currently started you can also Right mouse click the Wireless Zero Configuration and select "Stop"

This will permantly disable this service from running and you should not have any spiking lag issues.

This network lag normally occurs to people who play online games.

When the check is sent out (basically the XP PC is checking that the AP is there) the pings on the normal internet tend to spike.

Hence online gamers end up with network lag and they generally get fragged.

What is your setup?
How far away are your network cards?

Those things I would look at first for drop outs before anything else.

I'm disappointed.
The distance between Wcards is very very short!
I'm trying to find a solution with Ralink support, but they don't replay my questions!
:-(
I'm not interested about games very much, because my problem seems to be a general incompatibility with my hardware, i think
So i ALWAYS see in windows the alert "connected" and then "disconneted", then again "connected" and then "disconneted" in a few seconds!
I' don't understand!!!!

Thanks!

Have a look at http://www.minitar.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=22 as well, some people report they have to fix both XP problems to get a solid connection

Sorry to bump such an OLLDD OLLDD thread, but this is the only site I could find which has a fix for my intermittant lag problem. However now I have another problem.

When I disable and stop the above service once my pc is already turned on, it works great. However, if I restart after I have done this, the wireless connection will not connect at all, unless I start the service. Once I have done this, I can stop the service again and I am again spike free.

Any Ideas how i can stop this?

Are you using the utility Wconfig software as when that is controlling the card the zero wireless config service does not need to be running on a reboot

Warning: Don't do this if your computer is on a domain and is dependent on wireless to connect to domain controllers.
