Hey there,
I try to figure out what sort of mode I have to use for my situation.
I have 1 netgear DG834 with a high gain antenna
- wireless connected to 5 PC's
100 mtr further I've got the minitar wireless AP
- with in his neighbourhood 5 other PC's
(I have to use a relaypoint because the netgear antenna can't penetrate the tin roof)
What mode do I use to connect the Minitar with the Netgear so that the other 5 pc's can have internet acces too?

Hi there,
Will the 5 PC's be connected to the MNWAPB wirelessly or through a wired switch ?
If they need to connect wirelessly then you will need the MNWAPB in WDS mode - but for this to work the Netgear must also support WDS. If the Netgear doesn't support WDS then unfortunatly you can only attach the 5 clients via wired. WDS only works if both AP's support it.

Thanks for you quick reply S,
I was planning to connect all the pc's wireless, but as far as I can discover...the netgear doesn't support WDS.
Are there other possibilites, to bring the internet signal wireless over from point to point without WDS?
For example would it work when I connect a normal router to the minitar, or perhaps a computer?

Basically you have 2 choices then - both will require 1 extra piece of hardware (or a PC acting as the hardware, depending how you do it).
Option 1 - this is if the Netgear will support basic point-to-point non-WDS modes. You can have 2 AP's on the far side, one to handle the bridge and the other to associate with the clients.
CODE
Internet ---- Netgear ................. MNWAPB ------- MNWAPB ....... wireless clients
(wireless bridge) (wireless bridge) (ap)
--- is wired
.... is wireless
Option 2 - this is if the Netgear has no bridge support at all - you let 2 MNWAPB"s handle the bridge and far-side associations. You can associate either to the Netgear or the local MNWAPB on the left-hand side.
CODE
Internet --- Netgear --- MNWAPB ............. MNWAPB .......... wireless clients
(ap) (wds) (wds)
Option 3 - use a PC in adhoc (or softAP) mode on the right-hand side to be wired directly to the MNWAPB and then bridge it's ethernet card with a adhoc or softap wireless card to associate with the other clients.
CODE
Internet --- Netgear .................... MNWAPB ------- PC ....adhoc.... wireless clients
(wireless bridge) (wireless bridge)
Just a few options, im sure i've missed a couple :-)

I tried te third option yesterday, but had some trouble with the settings.
1. What setting do I use (in the third option) on the Minitar? I tried a.o. infrastructure, but that didn't work.
2. I assume the Minitar is only the receiving device, so if I wire the minitar to the PC with a wireless card in it, that card should do the transmitting/(recieving) part.
So, what exactly do I have to set up to make the bridge beween the minitar and the wireless card in the PC. (Im using XP)

Hi there,
1. What mode you have the Minitar in will depend what bridging modes the Netgear supports. If the netgear doesn't support WDS the hopefully it supports bridge point-to-point, try this. If that doesn't work try station-infrastructure
2. To bridge under XP between your wired ethernet port (connected to the MNWAPB) and your adhoc wireless card which your other wireless clients are connecting to then in your Network COnnections window select the ethernet and wireless connections together, click on the Advanced menu and choose Bridge Connections

And back again,
We bought the second Minitar (WAPB) so that we can setup option 2.
At this stage I can use a bit of help in setting up this contruction.
The Netgear (router, modem and wireless AP) works over channel 13.
I guess that the two minitars shuld be working over a different channel than the Netgear. But the Minitars should be both on the same channel, right?
Do I setup both the Minitars in AP Bridge-WDS mode?
And if yes which MAC adresses do I fill in on the list that appears when I select AP Bridge-WDS?
Are there other settings that I have to take in account?

Hi there,
Basically you want this
Netgear on channel 13 with a certain SSID, say "NETGEAR"
Minitar's in WDS mode on a different channel and different SSID to the Netgear but both the same as you suggested - so both Minitar's on channel 2 with SSID, "BRIDGE" will suffice.
When configuring the WDS mode as noted you will see the MAC address text boxes down the bottom of the Wireless Settings page. In there you need to enter in the MAC address of the opposite MNWAPB (i.e. in the configuration of the left MNWAPB you need to enter in the rights MAC address). Can you find the MAC address of a unit in the SYstem Status page under the Wireless Settings (think it's called hardware address or BSSID off memory).
Let us know how you go.
Thanks,
S.

Okay the bridge is working properly!
Now we're about to test the range, let's hope for the best.
I keep you up to date
