Hi I was wondering what the average speed is to transfer data between two ap's bridge point to point. I am transferring 50 mb in about 90 seconds from two pc's in the same room. Is that about normal? does the speed change with lower or higher channels?

the speed wont change between channels

and by those figures i guess your getting about 750k/s which is very good, about as high as ull get.

What happened to 11 mb per second?

11mbit/second is half duplex. which means you need half for up, and half for down traffic, as far as i know.

which leaves you with 6mbit, since there is 8bits in a byte, 6000/8 is equal to a throughput of 750k/s

which is very good on 802.11b

So if he transferred 50 megabytes in 90 seconds It works out at 50 * 8 * 1000 = 400000 kilo bits / 90 seconds = 400000/90 = 4.444 m bits per second.

Is that right?

The realistic maximum I've gotten taking into account all the overheads is around 4mbit/s

also what i get between links.
bits
half duplex means it can only send or recieve at any given time (not both)
which is logical because if it were to do both at once it would be listening to its own signal output...

ofcourse most things require both sends and receives (tcp...) so u have to stop transmitting while u receive those packets.

Is there anyway someone will design internet using UDP that doesn't need a response?

considering by nature packet loss is gonna happen even on wired links it wouldn't work..

and then wireless.. well that has the biggest problem with paket loss...

in a perfect world where u assume things are always working upd would work fine, in the real world it would slow things down more then anything when u continuously have to reattempt to get all the data sent again smile.gif
