Full Version: My problems with the Minitar AP
Minitar Forums > Discontinued Products > Minitar 802.11B MNWAPB Wireless Access Point Issues & Firmware
vik
I have the following problems with the Minitar AP's:

1. There are some devices which after the IP changing (or after the firmware upgrade) can not be accessed (even to the new IP, or old IP, or default IP) and even more, can not be resetted to factory default.
The question is: How to reset it??

2. There, mainly I use the Minitar AP's in station infrastructure mode. I use these with an outdoor antenna attached and oriented in the direction of an Acces Point in my local wireless network. Sometimes, these devices (in station infrastructure) see other AP's in my network (same SSID) (but with weak signal) and connect to it. Then the link quality with this weak AP is not very good and the connection is extremely fluctuating in speed and quality.
The question is: How can I lock to a specific AP' mac, the Minitar AP's set in station infrastructure mode??

3. I use mainly the Minitar AP in station infrastructure mode and for Internet acces only, with external antennas.
If the ARP is enable on my linux server (to secure access to internet to a specific IP and mac address, than all my client with minitar radio modems (in station infrastructure mode) stop to have internet. Only that clients. With other manufacturers devices there is no problem. There seems that the Minitar ap forward to server it's mac address.
The question is: How can I solve this problem? (No result improovement with the clone mac function)
But if behind the same Minitar radio modem is a UTP network with many computers how can I give acces to everyone with the APR activated on linux server?

4. Can I use the Minitar Ap's in station infrastructure as a router? That means to give to it a specific public IP address and to enable the DHCP function and the client sin The utp network to obtain automatically IP and internet access.
Is it possible? There seems that if the IP's of the DHCP server are not in the same class (subnet) with the Minitar IP and with gateway it doesn't work. Where I make th e mistake. For what reason I can set the gateway other than to give internet acces to the cabled network?

5. Other suggestions for a next firmware upgrade: I'd like my minitar AP's to know bandwitch management, port and protocol control (to cut off the Windows broadcast for example, or a specific port or service), SMPT, statistics and monitoring, telnet .

Thank you in advance for your specific answers to my questions.

Kind regards,
Victor

Hi Victor,

In answer to your questions.

1. The only way is to factory default the units by holding in the reset button for a long period of time. If that doesn't reset the unit back to 192.168.2.1 then you have a faulty unit.

2. The MNWAPB does not support associating to a specific BSSID, only to an ESSID. I suggest that if you only want these clients to associate to a certain AP in your WLAN then you set MAC association controls up on your main access points to only allow the specific clients that should be connecting to that access point.

3. Station infrastructure mode only supports a single PC wired behind the MNWAPB. If you want more than a single PC then you need to have the MNWAPB in bridge point-to-point mode. Which firmware are you running on the MNWAPB's in station-infrastructure mode ? Clone-MAC does not function in station-infrastructure mode as since it's only built to have a single PC behind the MNWAPB it always transmit's the clients MAC address

4. The MNWAPB"s are wireless bridges. They can not be used as routers.

5. Sorry, but we are not currently investigating any further enhancements to the firmwares in these units.

I suppose thes devices are way past their prime now. So what is the support policy (sounds like there is no planned firmware releases,)? what is still going to be done? Major problem bug fix only, nothing?

interested but not concerned.

We will still attempt to resolve all issues and bugs with these devices - but there will be no new planned feature enhancements.
