Full Version: How to wireless my Xbox
Minitar Forums > Discontinued Products > Minitar 802.11B MNWAPB Wireless Access Point Issues & Firmware

Hi all,

I'm pretty much a noob to the land of wifi and was hoping that somebody could throw a few pointers my way. I have read and searched my way through the forums but am still not having much luck. I would like to be able to Xbox live via my existing wireless network.

My current setup is as follows:

Billion 7500G
gateway IP = 192.168.1.254
running DHCP
1 wireless workstation connected

What is the easiest way to wirelessly connect my Xbox via my MNWAPB to be able to use the internet connection? I am not currently running any wireless security whatsoever.

Thanks in advance smile.gif

You need to change the MNWAPB mode to wireless client so it can connect to the Billion router. Connect the MNWAPB via ethernet to the Xbox. Possibly upgrade the AP to ver2.53 firmware.

I would actually recommend using the MNWAPB in WDS mode if the 7500G supports it (does it come with WDS by default nowadays or was that a 7500G fimware upgrade ?).

Thats how I do it with a MN54G4R and it works great.

Thanks guys.

Serialmonkey - The 7500G apparently supports WDS as of the latest firmware v5.01 released a few days ago. I'll upgrade tonight and have a play.

As far as device configuration goes I'm thinking I need to do the following:

- make sure the Minitar and 7500 are on the same subnet
- make sure both the Minitar and 7500 have each others MAC address configured
- configure the same SSID on both devices
- configure only the 7500 to offer DHCP

What have I forgotten? Thanks again.

Same channel and same security settings.

Other than that, your set ! :-)

Cheers!

I have it set up and running nicely. To be honest the most difficult thing I had to deal with was resetting the Minitar to factory defaults. It look me about 15 attempts to get it to reset. Very strange. I have now recorded the IP config so it should not be a problem in the future :-)

Thanks for your assistance.

No problems at all. I use mine for gaming and it hasn't missed a beat. Decent enough speeds for streaming video as well (which I find you can't get with most 802.11g hardware, depending on the bitrate though)
