Hi i have a minitar which by mistake has had 12v dc unregulated put into it for several minutes. The minitar now only displays a power light and doesn't function as normal when connected to its proper power pack. Any ideas anyone?

hi, the plugpacks supplied are 12v dc unregulated, so unless you got the polarity wrong it shouldn't have hurt it. have you tried a factory reset?

Yes polarity was right .Tried hitting reset but still only get a power light and no other lights.

I assume its connected to a pc network card. did you try a 4 second plus reset? ie push and hold the reset button for more than 4 seconds?

Yes tried that .It is connected to pc via network card .Seems like something has blown inside the minitar.

it doesnt sound good for your minitar. was the 12v dc that you mistakenly plugged in filtered at all? have you tested the voltage output under load from it?

Yes the power pack had diode rectification. Does anyone have a schematic for one of these?Or know if they have a protection diode

I am not sure but I think the minitar has a regulator that regulates to about 3 volts for the realtek chip and theoretically a dc supply of 6v to 20v should work ok [but dont try it on my word] unless there is a separate regulator that outputs a higher voltage for other parts on the minitar.[please correct me if I am wrong], I am not sure if they have a polarity protection diode in them. did your power pack with diode rectification have a filter cap? I think the people at melbourne wireless have explored the insides of minitars .

The powerpack only had diodes no filter cap.I'll have a look at melbourne wireless .See if i can find any info .

maybe the dirty unfiltered dc has stuffed the minitar.
