I have a problem with my minitar AP. I went to install it in a box on the roof but once it was installed and I went to configure it I was unable to access the web interface. I could see and associate with the ssid of it, and was able to access computer systems connected on the wired LAN side of things as well as link to the lapton on the wireless side of things. Using Look@lan port scanned I was not able to determine the IP address used. I scanned 192.168.0.0 > 192.168.255.255 as well as an allocation range from Melbourne Wireless, 10.10.0.0 > 10.10.1255.255 which have been the only ranges I have ever put the unit into in the past.

I then tried to reset it by depressing the switch on the back but this took an unusual number of times before it reset to default parameters. I knew this because the ssid of "default" was now displayed in Netstumbler. Still I was unable to scan for the ip address, which should have reset to 192.168.2.1 according to the manual. I was also still able to associate to it and pass data across the wireless/wired links.

My thoughts would be that somewhere the web interface has become corruptted???

Can some one give any assistance please?

If I was to do the serial port mod, would I then gain access to the unit without the need of an ip address??

Please, any info/advice/assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mark,

It sounds like a hardware fault, though you say you can still route packets from the wireless->wired segments ?

Unfortunatly even with the serial mod you won't be able to login to the device as you need the web interface to "bypass" the serial login. Unless you are running an old firmware like 2.32 ?

Oh well, I tried the serial port but also had no access.....I will put it on the shelf for another day!!

Solved....I passed the unit onto someone else.

It turned out to be the simplest thing........

the reset switch had become faulty, and the unit was in a sort of "constant" reset mode. There was no time to allow access to the web interface before it reset again.

Simply yet complicated.....mmhhhh.

I have done that to a unit myself. We have had a couple of instances of the reset switch doing what you describe however it does not happen very often.
