Just wondering if anyone has done this yet? I have set up my connection connected directly to my laptop, but then when I plug the modem into the router I can not connect to the internet!!! Can anyone tell me the settings I need?

Hi there,

Search for forums here, you will find reference to how to get to the "hidden" configuration page on your Optus dsl-302g that allows you to enable bridged mode on your modem. Bridged mode is required for your modem to work with a router.

After mush investigating found a solution to my problems...It turns out Optus are using a subnet of 255.255.255.255 which it appears is not supported by the MN54G4R. What I had to do to get it to work was enable NAT on the modem and then set the router to use a fixed IP....I hope this will help anyone that encounters the same issues!!

See link http://www.dlink.com.au/tech/drivers/files...l302g_optus.htm
This is for d-link but same principal and settings for MN54G4R

Do you have a normal personal account with Optus or a business account that uses bridged ethernet ? I haven't heard of this issue before and have setup a few Mn54G4R's with 302G's under Optus.

Just incase it comes up again, that 'hidden' page on OptusNet DSL modems (only works with the older 302g modems - the newer firmware doesn't allow it) is:

http://10.1.1.1/hag/pages1/home.ssi

You can then get in and change to the bridge mode.

Oh yeah, add standard ISP disclaimer here wink.gif
(Not supported blah blah blah)

hi there my first post on the forum..smile.gif

yeah i just had the same issue with the optus modem ..seem your right after trying my router and helping friends to connect the comps...!@#$ i was pulling my hair out... 255.255.255.255 is this common or is it only with d-link modems

dlink..... rolleyes.gif

Yep and the optus firmware does not help one bit unfortunatally.

hmmm even with the upgraded firmware will not help it..im at home now browsing...says something in the faq about enabling nat in the modem..would this fix the problem...i hope so..i did suggest however not to get the modem that optus supplied..but you know how some ppl r..they just dont listen lol..

im the one thats pulling my hair out..because i dont like failing lol....

NAT should not be important if you are Bridging the DLINK. The MN54G4R handles the NAT.

Basically, setup the Dlink to be a bridged modem and then setup the MN54G4R. Then plug the modem into the MN54G4R's WAN port. Remember you are setting up the MN54G4R as a PPPOE Connection not DHCP.

I would reset the dlink to factory and start again with it. The follow that link in the post above and go from there.

thanks for your reply much appreciated...

first of all im not using bridging..so it seems i must enable the dlink dsl-32OG and enable nat..my problem is now which connection option do i use.. as in the connection type im suppose to use pppoe..but i see no submask option ...

PPPoE Type Dynamic Static
User Name
Password
Confirm Password
MTU (128-1492)
Authentication Type AUTO PAP CHAP MSCHAP version 1
Service Name (optional)
IP Address . . .
Primary DNS . . . (optional)
Secondary DNS . . . (optional)
Connect on Demand Enable Disable
Disconnect Option minutes

will the router auto config that part as i have to set the submask to 255.0.0.0..or could i use the fixed option which gives me the same options as what they are asking for minus the user/password..im at home atm so i cannot determine which way i could go..seems the fixed ip option is the way to go.. as they are supplying me the information according to the fixed ip option

little hiccups dont u hate them...smile.gif

Will u be around tonight?
I had all the same issues and mine is now working seemlesy....alll be it for some issues with my printer!! But if you want when I get home I can tell you all the settings I am using
knightzz
im around right now if u r still there...i had no issues with my printer everything was fine..but that was my printer that will be the next task i have to complete once this issue it out of the way..hope there printer issue goes as smoothly as my printer did...

btw what printer do u have i have a canoni865 and what i had to do to get the printer working was to install the drivers on both comps...then choose tcp-ip for the port and type the server address which was the minitar addy ...not like the normal procedure where the client downloads drivers....from the source...

hope this helps....

If you are not bridging your DSL-302G then you should wire it to a LAN port on the Mn54G4R and leave the WAN port empty. Then, you don't need to worry about the WAN setup in the Mn54G4R - just ignore it and disable the DHCP server on the Mn54G4R.

u just confirmed what i was thinking of doing thanx very much..also i would still be able to use the print server aswell if im correct smile.gif.. ill have to connect the usb then use the ethernet to link with the MN54G4R and that shoud do it..
knightzz
ill just add this and you can confirm if this is the right procedure if i decide to bridge mode.. hopefully may help others..i think the last 2 paragraphs are for static ip only and then just goto router and enter pppoe on MN54G4R dynamic...

Correct.

thanx very much guys...i did the above and decided to enable bridge..worked like a dream..i was able to log in the Optus dsl-302g modem using the http://10.1.1.1/hag/pages1/home.ssi

enable bridge by following the exact instructions from this pdf file below

http://www.dlink.com.au/tech/drivers/files...Bridge_Mode.zip

except for the last 2 paragraphs which where static ip....

then i went into the wan address of the MN54G4R http://192.168.1.253 and select PPPOE Dynamic and filled in the fields selected PAP for Optus Australia and left the dns as optional and it was good as go...printer installed like a dream also..

another happy customer..btw i phoned up where i bought my minitar from because i was only setting there network up..took mine back ( Indian giver:P) tongue.gif and the minitar was out of stock which suggests they selling pretty well ...they got some new stock coming in this afternoon ...

thumbs up to the MN54G4R router all in 1 solution for your needs.....

I may be rambling on but i think the above would be easier for people like myself that has never configured this type of modem before...im on cable so i think you can forgive me ...
serialmonkey
Glad to hear you are all sorted :-)
