Hi there, when I connect my minitar AP to my cable modem. I can't browse the net. I can ping the AP but I can't ping my modem as I don't know modems have ip numbers.

when I had adsl, I had;
PC ip number: 192.168.1.3
AP ip number: 192.168.1.1
ADSL router Ip number: 192.168.1.254

I'd put ADSL ip no as my default getaway and preferred DNS nos to get static (192.168.1.3) ip on my PC. But with cable modem I don't know who is who, what is what.

Can please someone summarise the possible configration details when we need to connect minitar access point to cable modem. or is anyone here using minitar AP with Optus' Motorola 5100 cable modem?

With ADSL I had 192.168.1.* range in my AP and router. But with cable I can't make sure of it as I don't know the modem's ip.

Thanks in advance

CAble modem IP = 192.168.100.1

Ah, correct me if I'm wrong but to use any AP to connect to the net it needs to be set up to be a router as well as an AP. The firmware on the Minitar used to have these applications but they got removed a long time ago. There wasn't any web page to configure them any way.

Are you trying to do this?

------Cable modem --------- minitar --< wireless >----- some client pc

Just because you can share an IP address range with the cable modem dosn't mean it starts working - the Minitar doesn't have any way of connecting to your cable service ( like bpaLogin for Telstra cable or PPOE or ? ).

Are you trying to run the cable connection client on the pc and connect through the AP (using it as a wireless bridge)?
