Can some one please lead me in the right direction.
I have an IBM thinkpad 600,which is programmed with Windows 2000 but accepts windows NT.
The equipment that I have got for wireless operation is a Minitar LAN access point MNWAPB along with a Minitar Wireless LAN cardbus adaptor MNW2BPCM.
I have loaded the card into the laoptop and that is working OK,BUT as soon as I try and program the access point I am blocked.I type in at the address point the 192.168.2.1 but it comes up on the screen and states 'Internet Explorer Could not open this page'
I have then tyied to reprogram it as per the instructions and it does exactly the same thing.
The only lamp that lights up on the unit is the power light and nothing else.
Two questions....why isnt this working /programing correctly.
Am I supposed to run a cable from the access point to the laptop.
Why dosent the page open when I try and program the IP address.
When I do type in the http://192.168.2.1 and then press enter all I get is Internet Explorer could not open page....
Can someone please put me into the right direction....or do I stick this equipment on Ebay and sell it.

HELP please as I need to get this gear up and running...The frustration is so annoying.

We recommend running an ethernet cable from the MNWAPB to your machine for initial configuration. Can you check that.

1. You have an IP address statically assigned to your network card in the correct range - 192.168.2.* - as per the installation guide

2. Can you ping 192.168.2.1 from the command prompt ?

serialmonkey....been there done all that,no joy...tried that first off.
As soon as I type in the addess at the top of the screen, all that comes up is Internet Explorer cannot open this page.....I have tried everything and reprogrammed and reset and all,BUT still nothing at all.

Would the unit be crook????

By default the DHCP server in the MNWAPB is not on. Did you give your ethernet card an IP address of 192.168.2.2 by anychance (or something else in that range) before you connected? Otherwise you will not be able to connect.

Step by step of what I did.
By the way I am not tyrying to be smart either, just to assist you in the remedy.
The laptop was on,the cardbus put into place, the wireless access point beside the laptop.
I have athe power supply to the access point and ity is showing the green light.
I turn the laptop to control panel,I double click the Network icon and up pops a smaller window.I highlite TCP/IP and then click OK.
I figured that with no lights working on the access point that it didnt want to take anything.
By the way when I plug in the bard,I was getting a flashing light on the wireless activity,BUT it still wouldnt transmit anything for me.
I take it then that TCP/IP is installed.
I then close it all down ,then go to the top page, enter 192.168.2.1 and it comes up saying Internet explorer cannot connect to page.
Why and why not.

That is the lastest.

So you did assign your network card an IP of 192.168.2.2 in the TCP/IP Properties. Sorry if I misunderstood you but I could not see if you had. If you haven't you should with a Subnet mask of 255.255.255.0

Also when you say there are no lights on the MNWAPB when you put in the power, does that include the PWR light?

screwball...the subnet is OK 255.255.255.0,the only light coming on is the power light.
If I change the IP address around will that help eg 192.168.1.xx or 192.168.2.xx

If the MNWAPB is at default, then the unit is on 192.168.2.1

That means you need to have your PC set to 192.168.2.2

Try and connect via the ethernet connection. Does the LAN light come on when you plug it in? If it does, and you have set the ethernet to 192.168.2.2 try to connect to the MNWAPB interface on http://192.168.2.1

Let me know how you go.

Screwball.....hey guess what ,I connected from the modem on the tabletop PC to the wireless modem...the Minitar and and got nothing and I then connected the cable from the modem from the bench PC direct to the laptop and ended up with a virus.
I also discovered that there isnt any TCP/IP programmed ionto the laptop,so I am off to the computer doctor on Wednesday to get it fixed....Shall advise as to what happens.

Has it been reset since you got it? It may not have the default IP address.
