O.K. after getting my broadband internet connection from my brothers house with an Minitar MNWAPB and an antenna at my end and the same at his end I thought I would play around with the settings of the access point which in actual fact stuffed it up. Luckily I saved the config.bin file when it was all working so I can reload the working settings back.

when I type the IP address of the access point into the internet explorer page, it takes me to the configuration page of the access point like it should.

Once ive done that, I went into the page where I can reload the config.bin file to restore my previous setting but when i select the file and then press the apply button, my PC asks if want to go online or stay offline.

When I select offline, nothing happens ie no changes to the settings, so i select online.
i plugged the phone line back in because i stuffed the wireless connection to broadband up, and it starts dialling to get onto the net and then it comes up with the page "This page cannot be displayed" blah blah blah blah.

i didn't think i need an internet connection to change the settings of my access point. i have the network cable going from my network card straight up the access point. Why is it that my pc wants to connect to the net to change settings of the access point?

i must be doing something wrong.

ANy advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

No, you don't need to be connected to the internet. The problem is with your browser. It "thinks" you are not connected and so will pop up the dialog. Sounds like you used to use dialup to get connection.

Somewhere in your network configuration you need to chage the settings to "This PC is directly connected..." - maybe the network setup wizard.

funny that the "offline" didn't work. My kid's PC has never been set up properly and if you bring up a browser you get the same thing - asks if you want to go online, say no, then doing a refresh gets the web page.

Thanks for that.

i went into Internet explorer, clicked on tools, then connnections and then clicked the radio button which says, never dial a connection.

All fixed now.

Thanks
