Hi all.

Well I seem to be having some problems with my minitar access point. It’s a MNWAPB. Whenever I tried to type the IP address from my browser to have a look at the settings, it would come up with the message “This page cannot be displayed”. Anyway, I sent the minitar away to get fixed because it was working fine before this. Since then I have borrowed a Cisco Aeronet 350 from work which is only an access point.

With the 2 minitars we had, my brothers house would have the broadband connection and via wirless I would also get broadband. We had the 2 minitars set up as a bridge.

Now the Cisco cannot be a bridge, it can only be an access point.

My question is,
Until I get my minitar back, I still wanted to use the Cisco as a temp fix. Can I set the Cisco up at his house as an access point and get his working Minitar, configure it as a bridge and set it up at my house so i can still get wirless broadband from his house. I only want to do this until my minitar is back from repairs.

Thanks

You won't be able to bridge the Cisco with the MNWAPB.

What you can do though is set the MNWABB in Station-Infrastructure mode. Ensure you are running the latest firmware on the MNWAPB and start off by only having a single PC wired into the MNWAPB to test everything is working.

Guys,

Station-infrastructure mode essentially turns the MNWAPB into a Wireless Network Card for whatever PC is wired into it. Think of it like a USB Wireless Card that just happens to be connected via Ethernet to your PC.

When you switch the MNWAPB to Station-Infra mode you will be able to run a Site Survey to select what WLAN you want to connect to. Think of this just like the Available Wireless Networks listing in XP. Once you have configured the MNWAPB to what WLAN you want to connect to (no MACS needed, only need MACS for bridge) then wire the PC to the ethernet port on the MNWAPB and you should get a DHCP lease from the DHCP server on the far side of the MNWAPB.

Just be sure the MNWAPB is running the latest firmware.

Thanks for your reply Serialmonkey. Very well explained.

BTW. What is the latest firmware version and how do i upload the minitar with it?/

Latest firmware is 2.53 - which is available from the downloads page on our website (http://www.minitar.com/downloads/MNWAPB_2_53.zip)

To upgrade there is a menu option on the left-hand menu for Upgrade. You just go in there and upload the file you downloaded from our site (unzip it first).
