Hi all.

the other night i was in the config page of my minitar MNWAPB and i clicked on the site survey button.

2 networks came up. One was my brothers (Which i have a wifi link and i get broadband from his house) and the other was the buddhist temple.

My brothers signal strength was on 1 but the buddhist temple was fluxuating from 26 down to 4 whenever i hit the refresh button.

if i have a signal strenth of 1, does that mean its a strong signal or is it vise versa?

thanks

The signal detection page while it shows the available WLAN networks the signal strength has always not worked that well.

Basically the fluctuations you see have always been there and really I wouldn't take too much notice of it. Obviously you want to connect only to your Brothers connection so if it is stable I would leave it at that.

i wouldnt mind connecting to the other network considering its not encrypted. its from a commercial site so i dont think they would mind if i jumped on.

Then again it is a Buddhist Temple... maybe they think their ZEN will keep intruders away from their WLAN hence no encryption? Maybe you should inform them of the encryption or lack of it on their network?

Commerical or not, unless your are Authorised you could be breaking the law.

Up to you only if you want to connect to it.

Well i cant really. when i do a site survey, the signal strength (According to the numbers) keeps on going up and down. Its about 4km away and i only have a 12dbi antenna. Not sure if the signal would be strong enough.

Thanks

If you connect you will definately be breaking the law so be careful, you don't know who sniffs around the forums. Anything you do should be for "research purposes" only!!!!!!

Thanks for that. well i didn't connect to the network and i did what screwball suggested.

I phoned them up and told them that they had a unsecure network and they should look into it.

I dont think i would have been able to connect anyway because the signal strength wasn't strong enough. I only have a 12dbi directional antenna.

thanks
