I no absolutely nothing when it comes to setting up my Minitar AP, and there seesm to be a lot of options available that are not explained in the instruction manual supplied. Such as what MAC addresses do I use in the lists available. How do I make the AP recognise my Belkin 54g etc. I have had a quick look in this forum but without a basic understanding I do not know where to begin or what to ask. Please point me towards some reading.

Thank you

All wireless devices assume some prior wireless/network knowledge as there are so many different configurations it's impossible to document every option you may wish to implement.

What are you trying to achieve and we can help you configure the device.

Thank you,

I have a NETGEAR WGR614 AP all wired and wireless with Broadband connection. With a high gain antenna I am able to see my NETGEAR AP from my friends house down the street, so what I want to do is connect the Minitar at his house directly to the antenna and then into his switch. I have tried various modes but it doesn't seem to want to connect. In several modes it asks for MAC addresses and SSID's and I am not sure if these should match my NETGEAR or what? I know there is a link because if I use my Wireless card in the laptop it will connect. Please start me in the right direction.

Many Thanks

Does your Netgear support WDS ? That will make a big difference to the suggested config.

You first said about about a Beklin 54G AP then a Netgear...

Im Guessing your unit is in access point (AP) mode and the Minitar is running 2.53 firmware.

Have both units close by while setting them up so you can garentee signal wont be the problem.

- Connect the Minitar to your wired network so you can login to it.
- Login to the Minitar and click on Wireless Setting
- Select the mode as Station Infrastructure in the drop down box
- Click Apply down the bottom, wait a bit unill it says it is sucessfull and click ok
- Go back to the Wireless Setting page and click on Select Site Survey
- A new window appears, click on Refresh
- Your Netgear unit should appear, look for its name (SSID) in the list.
- Click on the radio button on the left under the connect collum and then click the connect button at the bottom
- It will come up with a fail or sucess message, click ok

On the Status and Information page make sure everything is ok

Setup security if you need to. Just note that if you have no WEP setup on the Minitar but the access point its conecting to does the Minitar will still say its connected on the Status and Information page. when you use WEP then it will say if its truly connected or not.

Now put the Minitar at the other location and set it up and hope for the best. On your friends computer login to to the minitar and go to the Wireless Setting. click on Clone MAC and apply. Everything should work even if you dont do this though.
