Full Version: 802.11b AP WEP problem with Avaya Gold

I have a problem trying to get an Avaya Gold 802.11b PC card working with my Minitar 802.11b access point. They happily talk to each other without encryption active or if I set the authentication type to auto, but if I enable WEP, the connection is lost. I have entered the same key in the client and the AP.

The AP works fine with a Minitar card or a Netgear card with 128 bit WEP enabled.

The card is running on Windows 2000.

I tried the Avaya card with a Netgear Wireless router with 128 bit WEP enabled and it all worked fine. Could the Minitar AP have a problem with using shared key for the WEP authentication??? Any suggestions???

What version firmware is your AP running?
KennyBoy
The firmware is Vers 2.39

What are the encryption keys that you are using... may as well show them as the Avaya may have a different way of formatting them.

Also what mode do you have the AP in?

I've tried a various 26 character hexadecimal keys as well as 13 character ASCII keys. It doesn't seem to matter what the key value is.

For example, I've used 12345678901234567890123456 ( hexadecimal) or qwertyuiopasd (ASCII) and neither worked.

I'm using the AP to connect to my notebook to my wired LAN at home and have it set to Wirless AP mode.

The problem was the Avaya drivers and client software. I installed what was supposed to be the latest drivers and software from the Avaya support site, but they didn't fix the problem. I found 2 versions later drivers and client software which was for all Lucent chipset cards at http://www.agere.com/support/drivers/ . Loaded them and WEP worked fine with shared key encryption active. - Thanks Screwball for your help.
